What is a color script?
A color script maps the emotional arc of a film onto deliberate color choices scene by scene. Production design, costume, lighting, and post-production align on the same hue, saturation, and contrast targets before cameras roll.
Coloristic's builder is a free planning surface — not a replacement for supervised DI. It helps you document intent, share references with department heads, and hand off consistent hex values to on-set cards and Resolve markers.
How to use the builder
Name your production, add scenes or film stills, then read the emotional progression on the story board. Select one scene at a time to shape its source palette, creative-intent palette, narrative beat, emotion, intensity, and lighting direction.
The default workspace stays focused on creative decisions. Enable Professional controls only when you need editorial identifiers, value and saturation targets, references, review states, versioning, timecode, or pipeline handoff notes.
Collaborative workflow
Color scripts work best when shared early. Export a PNG or print-ready PDF board for visual reviews, OpenTimelineIO for editorial context, or clearly labeled HTML, Markdown, and CSV references for production departments.
